A Minecraft Movie Review by a Minecraft Player (No Spoilers)
Hello, I just got back from watching Minecraft: The Movie, and while I’m not a movie critic, as a member of the Minecraft community, here’s what I thought of it.
Notes
It should really be called A Minecraft Legends Movie.
Block mining speed, ore rarities, and creeper explosion triggers feel extremely distant from actual Minecraft.
I really liked that they used the original mob sounds for 90% of the time.
Most things aren’t closely connected to vanilla Minecraft.
The Orb of Dominance, the main weapon from Minecraft Dungeons, is a major part of the story.
Speed boots from Minecraft Dungeons also make an appearance.
The chicken cooker from Minecraft Story Mode shows up.
We see Alex in the post-credits scene, hinting at a future movie.
A specific villager can talk, which is very interesting.
References
Jen was a waiter.
DanTDM was at an auction.
A pig with a crown is referred to as a legend, a nod to Technoblade.
An Iron Golem is called a "big guy," which could be a reference to Canman18, though it might just be coincidental.
Overall Review
It was a pretty decent movie. It had some funny parts throughout and a couple of average ones. The plot is very unoriginal to anyone who has completed Minecraft Legends, but it’s definitely entertaining. If you’re a Minecraft fan, have watched a lot of Minecraft videos, or have played any game by Mojang, I’d definitely recommend watching it. It’s an alright movie, and I enjoyed it.
Rating
I thought this movie was alright. It had a lot of good references and was very entertaining, but the unoriginal plot and some minor issues bring it down a bit. My rating for this movie would be 8.6, as it’s pretty decent.
